Within a week, Brown University’s Taubman Center has released a second poll showing the Governor’s race is statistically tied headed with only one week to go before the election.
The poll shows Democrat Gina Raimondo only leads her opponent Republican Allan Fung by less than one point, 38% to 37.4%. Moderate Party candidate polls at 11.8%, an increase from the last survey and 11.2% still remain undecided.
In just one week Fung improved his standing among men and women and nearly all age groups, taking a lead among voters under the age of 30 and only behind with voters between the ages of 60 and 69.
“Gina Raimondo has not consolidated the Democrats,” said Brown University pollster Professor James Morone, “A week out from the election only 52% of the Democrats say they are voting for Gina Raimondo, a quarter are voting for Fung, 10% are voting for Healey, 10% are undecided; that’s 45% of Democrats who have not committed, at least not yet to Gina Raimondo.”
Morone said the other big story of the poll is the amount of movement from undecided voters in the governor’s race from a week ago.
“The most important statistic between the the two Brown University polls are the numbers of undecideds; 18% last time, 11% this time, that’s the biggest difference,” said Morone.
The new Brown poll also addressed the Attorney General’s race which was absent one week ago. Incumbent Peter Kilmartin holds a 13-point lead over his Republican challenger Dawson Hodgson (50.6% to 37.6% respectively), with only 10% of voters remaining undecided. Kilmartin’s lead extends beyond the poll’s margin of error of 4.4%.
The Taubman Center poll surveyed 500 likely voters on both landlines and cell phones.
