The tallest building in Rhode Island will be closing it’s doors at 2:00 on Friday afternoon.
Bank of America was the structure’s sole tenant but their lease is set to expire at the end of the month. It is not clear when the “Superman building” will reopen.
The Massachusetts-based owner, High Rock Development, wants to turn the building into apartments but until then the building will be empty.
“We will certainly not continue to light the building once we take control of the building as Rhode Islanders are accustomed to. It’s just too costly a proposition. We’re certainly looking at lighting schematics to maintain some sort of lighting so that the building isn’t completely dark,” High Rock Development Spokesman Bill Fischer told WPRO’s Bill Haberman.
