The first ever WPRO Roast of Matt Allen, held on October 2, 2014 at the Comedy Connection in East Providence, raised over $3,400 for the local charity “We Share Hope,” a Rhode Island based food rescuer that aims to locate, gather, and distribute food to groups that feed those in need.

“It was a fantastic evening with genuinely talented people that I respect. It was all in good fun, and I am proud that WPRO’s terrific listeners and clients were so enthusiastic to help support this great charity,” said Matt Allen of WPRO.

The event sold-out quickly, with standing room only attendees eager to see the comedy show. Included on the panel of roasters was Gene Valicenti, Dan Yorke, Matt Allen Show producer Maverick, Amy Pontes from Lite Rock 105, Jessica Schiano from 92 PRO-FM, Will Gilbert from WPRI’s Rhode Show, and comedians Patrick Austin and Ace Aceto.

Allen continued, “I loved getting out of the studio for a night and meeting with the show’s listeners in such a cool venue. The Comedy Connection was fantastic to support this event, and I can’t wait to do it again some day. A very special thank you to the hundreds of listeners who came out to watch me get made fun of all night and to Cardi’s Furniture and Nikki’s Liquors for providing our auction items.”
