Providence Mayor Angel Taveras spoke with WPRO's John DePetro Saturday morning about the Capital City's efforts to recover the Friday's blizzard.

Taveras said they are currently focusing on clearing main streets to ensure they are passible, especially routes to Providence's hospitals.

Taveras said clearing roads is also imperative for restoring power, and the city has been working closely with National Grid. Taveras said there are currently about 7,000 households without power in Providence.

"It's going to take some time but we're working around the clock to get it done," he said about recovery efforts.

For those in need of non-emergency assistance, Taveras said to call 211 or the city at 401-421-CITY (2489).

"I want people to be very, very careful," he said, cautioning those who are using candles for heat and light to keep a close eye on them.

When asked if the city would be up and running by Monday, Taveras said: "We're going to do everything we can to make sure that happens."
