PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The three candidates running for Providence mayor will share a stage for the first time as they participate in a candidate’s forum at a retirement community on the city’s East Side.
The hour-long forum is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Laurelmead and includes former Mayor Buddy Cianci, an independent, Democrat Jorge Elorza, a law professor and former housing court judge, and Republican Dan Harrop, a psychiatrist.
Elorza won the Democratic nomination last week. He has gone after Cianci for his criminal past: Cianci was forced to resign from office twice due to felony convictions.
Cianci says his 21 years leading Providence give him the best experience.
Harrop has said he wants to overhaul the city’s finances, roll back pensions, freeze taxes and possibly declare bankruptcy.
