The city of Providence’s Healthy Communities Office, the Tri-Town Community Action Agency, The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Urban League of Rhode Island have teamed up to offer free smoking cessation classes and nicotine replacement therapy.

In a news release from Providence Mayor Angel Tavares, it says the free weekly classes will be offered to uninsured residents from across Rhode Island.

“I encourage all Providence residents who are considering quitting smoking to take the first step by signing up for the free classes offered by the City and our partners this New Year. Together we can build a healthy, smoke-free community,” said Mayor Tavares in the news release.

Classes will take place on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 beginning on January 17. They will be held at the Urban League of Rhode Island, located at 246 Prairie Avenue in Providence. Tavares says interested participants must attend an informational session on Tuesday January 8 at 5:00 at the Urban League of Rhode Island. Or they can call the Tri-Town Community Action Agency to register at 401-519-1970.
