A University of Rhode Island professor has been labeled the “nutty professor” by conservative media pundits, including Michelle Malkin, after an angry twitter rant against the NRA.
Erik Loomis a history professor at the University of Rhode Island was angry after the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting, so he took to his twitter account.
Loomis tweeted out “"Looks like the National Rifle Association has murdered some more children."
But his fury against the NRA didn’t stop there, he actually goes after the executive vice president and CEO of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre. “"Now I want Wayne LaPierre's head on a stick.”
Loomis was mad. He continued to tweet:” "F*** the National Rifle Association and its policies to put crazy guns in everyone's hands." He added, “"You are g*dd**n right we should politicize this tragedy. F*** the NRA. Wayne LaPierre should be in prison.”
He finished his angry tweets by suggesting, "Can we define NRA membership dues as contributing to a terrorist organization?"
University of Rhode Island President Dr. David Dooley put out a statement saying the university does not condone Loomis’s statements.
“The University of Rhode Island does not condone acts or threats of violence. These remarks do not reflect the views of the institution and Erik Loomis does not speak on behalf of the University. The University is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and equitable culture that aspires to promote positive change,” said Dooley in a statement.
Loomis’s account has since been removed from Twitter. Loomis also has a blog at lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com. In one post he specifys that he did not call for the assassination of LaPierre but instead notes he meant it as a metaphor implying that La Pierre should be held responsible for his actions.
