Providence native and singer-songwriter Jeffrey Osborne came to Providence's Amos House Tuesday, serving lunch to the hungry and homeless, and donating some of the proceeds from his new celebrity golf tournament.

Osborne helped dish out lunch to dozens of Southside residents, some of whom he knew growing up in Providence, and donated more than $75,000 to the Amos House, along with three other charities serving children: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, The Music School of the RI Philharmonic and The MET School.

The world renowned singer, song writer and Grammy nominee raised the funds when he held his Celebrity Golf Classic last summer with Magic Johnson, Smokey Robinson, Pat riley, The O'Jays and others. 

"It's kind of nice to see these people here and to come in and just share, share my time, and see what kind of a great cause this is," Osbrorne said. "It's really heartfelt.  I mean, any organization that just feeds people, you know, it's incredible.  So, it's beautiful for me to be part of it."

Amos House CEO Eileen Hayes was grateful for Osborne's donation, and his appearance to draw attention to the work of the social service agency.

"We serve anywhere between 500 and 800 meals a day here in the soup kitchen and the money that Jeffrey is helping us with will go to that program, as well as the housing programs and training programs and it really makes a big difference," Hayes said.
