PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Gina Raimondo says she has canceled her trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to prepare for a snowstorm that could hit New England this weekend.

Raimondo posted Wednesday on Twitter that she was canceling the trip after weather reports. She says the safety of Rhode Islanders is her top priority.

She was supposed to leave for the global conference Wednesday night.

The Democrat was one of three governors who were to be part of a U.S. delegation led by Vice President Joe Biden.

The University of Rhode Island Foundation was slated to pay for her travel expenses.

URI Foundation Chair Lorne Adrain issued a letter to the board and trustees apologizing to donors and alumni who disagreed with the foundation funding Raimondo’s trip.
