Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Christina Stanley was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Health confirmed Stanley was placed on leave following an administrative review done by Department of Health Director Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott
Last week, WPRI’s Tim White reported Rhode Island’s Medical Examiner’s Office had their accreditation downgraded by the National Association of the Medical Examiners.
The spokeswoman says the department is aware of the backlog and staffing issues that caused the downgrade and are working to fix it. She would not comment if placing Stanley on administrative leave was connected to the issue.
