A group that owns two major hospitals in Rhode Island wants to sell itself to a not-for-profit group.
CharterCare Health Partners, owners of Roger Williams Medical Center, Our Lady of Fatima Hospital and six other health organizations says it has signed an agreement to be acquired by The Centurion Foundation, an Atlanta, Georgia based non-profit which is promising to “increase access and lower the cost of healthcare services for the local community.”
The sale will need approval from the state departments of health, and attorney general, which last year put stringent conditions on any ownership change, and says it will now conduct a comprehensive review under Rhode Island’s Hospital Conversion Act.
The union representing nurses and other health professionals says wants to make sure any new owner “is willing to invest in the workforce, the hospitals and our community.”
