PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police say a 20-year-old man has been shot and killed in Providence, the city’s 12th homicide of the year.

Police say the victim was shot in the backyard of a Public Street home at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

He was identified by police Monday as Lucinio Javier Arauz Bastardo.

He was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Maj. David Lapatin said it appears the victim was targeted. No arrests were announced.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact investigators.
