WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Three Catholic parishes in Warwick will merge as the priest that has led two of the parishes retires.

The Diocese of Providence announced Monday that the St. Catherine and St. Francis of Assisi parishes will join Saints Rose and Clement Parish.

The decisions follows a decline in attendance of parishioners and the retirement of Father Pierre Plante who led the parishes at St. Catherine and St. Francis.

Bishop Thomas Tobin approved the merger after consultations with the three parishes.

The Saints Rose and Clement church building will be used as the main site for the newly merged parish.
