Saying that it might be her final appearance as President of the Providence City Council, Sabina Matos on Friday attended a mayoral announcement about the resumption of pandemic – caused outdoor dining and other activities.

“This easily could be, if not my last, one of my last official duties as President of the Providence City Council and I just want to take this opportunity to say this has been truly a pleasure to serve in this capacity for the City of Providence,” Matos said.

“I love this city and I will always do everything I can to help the city,” Matos said.

Mayor Jorge Elorza jokingly recognized Matos at the outset of the event at DePasquale Square.

“Is it President Sabina Matos? L-G nominee Sabina Matos? I don’t know, but please, a round of applause for Mrs. Matos,” Elorza said.

Matos Thursday won the endorsement of the Senate Judiciary committee in a unanimous, 15-0 vote to advance her nomination to the full Senate, which is expected to give it’s advice and consent to Gov. Dan McKee’s choice to succeed him on Tuesday.
