Rhode Island Republicans are urging the General Assembly to reject two elections-related measures.
Proposals to adopt pandemic-imposed changes to voting rules should not be made into law, said the House Minority Leader, Blake Filippi, (R-New Shoreham, Charlestown, Westerly, South Kingstown).
“We feel that many people in our state will lose an element of trust in our election system if these two laws pass, the elimination of voter I-D and the elimination of mail ballot certification, and we just see that as very problematic for the future of our state,” Filippi said
Filippi also wants a law requiring the secretary of state be more aggressive in cleaning up the voter rolls.
Filippi and a small group of Republicans spoke with reporters outside the Vets Memorial Auditorium, where the House meets, although there is no timetable to take up the elections related bills.
