MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (AP) — Young adults in the Newport area who need mental health help have a new resource.
The Newport Daily News reports that Newport Mental Health’s new Young Adult Center in Middletown opened earlier this month.
It will specialize in mental health services — such as services for major depression or anxiety disorders — for young adults between the ages of 16 and 25.
The center also offers the Emergency Suicide Prevention program, which provides specific interventions for suicide, along with housing and employment supports.
Jamie Lehane, president and CEO of Newport Mental Health said the average onset of serious mental illness symptoms occurs between the ages of 18 and 26.
