Providence Police arrested three men and seized a significant amount of drugs and guns in a raid at a home on Sisson Street in an operation that capped a three-month investigation.

One kilogram of cocaine, one kilo of heroin, two kilos of fentanyl, over 2,000 oxycontin pills and seven guns and a machete along with drug packaging equipment was laid out on a table in the Providence Public Safety Complex as police showed the haul to reporters Wednesday morning. The drugs amount to about $1 million on the street, police estimated.

“That amount of fentanyl would kill a lot of people in the city of Providence and just outside the city,” said Police Chief Colonel Hugh Clements.

“So, very dangerous, it speaks to the dangers of the job that we deal with every single day. Kudos and credit to the men who worked this investigation,” Clement said.

Among the guns put on display were two rifles, a shotgun, an AK-47 style automatic weapon that was constructed from parts, several handguns and a machete.

“The weaponry you see here, an AK-47 and rifles that you see on the street with these drugs create a danger to not only our police officers but our community as well,” said Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare.

The three suspects, identified by police as Luis Mercedes, Ernes Garcia and Vladimir Brito, all in their 20’s face a range of gun and drug related charges, police said.
