BOSTON (AP) – Former Providence mayor and Rhode Island gubernatorial candidate Angel Taveras has joined a Boston law firm.

Taveras said in a statement issued Tuesday that he has joined the Boston office of Greenberg Traurig LLP.

He says as a shareholder in the firm he will focus on municipal restructuring, public finance, commercial litigation, pension litigation and public infrastructure.

Taveras served as mayor of Providence from 2011 until 2015.

The Democrat ran for governor last year but lost in the primary to Gina Raimondo, who went on to win the general election.

He said in a statement that he is “excited to begin this new chapter in my life.”
