The โ€˜Independent Manโ€™ statue is returning to the State House this week and will be on display to the public starting Saturday, โ€œRhode Island Independence Dayโ€.

The 14-foot statue will return after undergoing refurbishment, including a new coat of gold leaf.

The statue was taken down last year after problems were found with its marble base atop the State House. Itโ€™s expected that it will be hoisted back to its pedestal in the fall.

According to releases from offices of the Governor and the Secretary of State, the viewing Saturday, May 4 will run from 9:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. during an open house, then during the regular weekday hours through the summer months

No date has been set for the Independent Manโ€™s return to the top of the State House.
