The ‘Independent Man’ statue is returning to the State House this week and will be on display to the public starting Saturday, “Rhode Island Independence Day”.

The 14-foot statue will return after undergoing refurbishment, including a new coat of gold leaf.

The statue was taken down last year after problems were found with its marble base atop the State House. It’s expected that it will be hoisted back to its pedestal in the fall.

According to releases from offices of the Governor and the Secretary of State, the viewing Saturday, May 4 will run from 9:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. during an open house, then during the regular weekday hours through the summer months

No date has been set for the Independent Man’s return to the top of the State House.
