Congratulations to this week’s Showcase Cinemas High School Team of the Week: Coventry High School Girls Basketball Team

I was wondering if there could be co-teams of the week; the girls basketball teams from West Warwick and Coventry put their rivalry aside and family first for their match-up on Monday, Feb. 12th. When you walked into the Coventry HS gym, you saw players warming up in bright yellow and purple T-shirts with #AntStrong on the front. #AntStrong was created in support of a 2 year old boy named Anthony, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 1 and is currently at Boston Children’s Hospital for treatment. His sister, Shanna, is a junior at WW and his cousin, Eva, is a freshman at COV. Both of these teams came together to spread awareness and made incredible donations on behalf of each team during halftime, which were presented to Anthonys father. It really showed that both teams understood that there are more important causes to support than an out-dated sport rivalry.
