A Smithfield woman escaped unharmed when a fire that broke out in the kitchen drove her from her Log Road home just before noon on Wednesday.

The blaze went to three alarms before firefighters were able to bring it under control, said Smithfield Deputy Fire Chief Steve Quattrini.

“She did discover the fire, again it’s still under investigation. It started somewhere in the kitchen area. The construction factor … it just ran rapidly throughout the house fairly quick,” he said.

“The members did a great job, this is kind of remote, so the members had a lot of work in front of them but they did a hell of a job doing it,” Quattrini said.

Quattrini said two alarms were struck to pull in units to fight the fire, and additional fire apparatus from North Providence, Lincoln, Woonsocket, Cumberland and Johnston were all dispatched to support the effort.

“It was a good end,” Quattrini said, adding, “rapid fire spread, the guys really got on top of it fairly quick.”
