Two people died in an early morning fire Friday that heavily damaged a home in Cranston’s Garden City neighborhood.
Officials did not immediately identify the victims, other than to say they were both adults.
“It’s tragic, very tragic fire,”said Cranston Fire Chief James Warren.
He said the first units arriving shortly after 2:30 A.M. found heavy smoke and fire pouring from the rear of the small, white house at 35 Whitewood Drive.
“They found the door was locked, they forced entry, and heavy smoke, heavy fire throughout the whole side of the house, in the rear,” Warren said. “They found the victim, brought him out of the house and continued to fight the fire.”
“We got the fire contained within an hour.”
He said the city and state fire marshals were investigating to try to determine the cause of the fire.
