A man was shot to death before dawn on Sunday at a South Side home that police described as an after-hours drinking establishment, and a suspect was quickly apprehended, and charged with homicide and using a “ghost gun” in the killing.
Police said that Ivan Encarnacion, 25 was found shot inside a home on Burnside Street.
“We believe it started as an argument that led to the shooting,” Major David Lapatin told reporters on Monday.
He said officers apprehended the suspect, Antonio Reyson Leonor Uffre, 26, with addresses in Woonsocket & Orlando, Florida within about 15 minutes.
Police Chief Oscar Perez credited officers for their quick actions, and warned homeowners against running after-hours drinking establishments.
“To these owners, to ensure that if they get involved in these type of incidents in the city, that they’re responsible,” Perez said. “And, the consequence of that could be their freedom, or criminal charges against them. It’s important to know that they’re responsible for the laws and this tragedy that happened over the weekend.”
Lapatin said that Uffre would face a murder charge, along with weapons counts, including possession of a ghost gun and use of a ghost gun in the commission of a crime of violence.
