Save the dates, say the emails from the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals.
Emails sent from “Team Newport” set the dates for the Newport Folk Festival July 28-30, 2023, and August 4-6, 2023 for the Newport Jazz Festival.
This year’s Folk Festival featured the legendary singer Joni Mitchell in a surprise appearance on the festival’s final day, 53 years after she last appeared on the Newport stage.
This year’s Jazz Festival featured a host of rising new stars, and also an appearance by legendary bass player Ron Carter, 85, who first appeared at Newport in 1961. He earned the Guinness World Records title as most recorded jazz bassist in history in 2015, when he had been recorded 2,221 times. He continues to record as an in-demand artist and to appear in person.
Newport Folk Festival tickets often sell out within hours after put on sale, usually around the holidays. This year’s Jazz Festival was announced as a sell-out on Saturday, July 30, and a near-sell-out Friday and Sunday.
