Two men were shot and killed, and a third man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in an exchange of gunfire Tuesday afternoon in the Corky Row neighborhood of Fall River.
Fifth Street along Griffin Playground was littered with shell casings and evidence markers placed by investigators.
“When officers arrived, they found two victims who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” said Police Chief Jeffrey Cardoza.
“Multiple ambulances arrived, and they were treated and transported to the hospital. We later found out that a third victim who was shot in the leg brought himself to the hospital. Unfortunately, two of the three are deceased,” Cardoza said.
He would not identify any of the victims, saying family members had not yet been notified, and he would not say if police have any suspects.
“It’s a very, very sad day in the Corky Row neighborhood of Fall River,” said Mayor Paul Coogan.
“It makes no sense to say it’s senseless, because everything like this is.” Coogan said he has faith in the Fall River Police, State Police and the District Attorney’s office. “I’m sure they’ll get to the bottom of it shortly,” he said.
Neighbors said there was frequent drug dealing in the area, that more patrols could have an effect. Chief Cardoza said more patrols are planned for the area in the coming days.
