NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A Roman Catholic priest in Massachusetts who was removed from ministry after the church determined that allegations of child sexual abuse he faced were “credible” has filed a defamation lawsuit against his bishop.

The Standard-Times reported Tuesday that Daniel Lacroix sued Diocese of Fall River Bishop Edgar da Cunha last week.

Lacroix, who most recently served at New Bedford churches, was removed from ministry in November after a diocese review board determined the allegations of sexual abuse of a minor were credible.

Lacroix’s lawyer says his client has done no wrong.

The diocese said Lacroix was removed from ministry after a fair and thorough review.
