PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police on Monday released the name of a 19-year-old man shot to death in Providence over the weekend.

Johnjairo Brito was shot multiple times while sitting in a car just before 2 p.m. Saturday on Academy Avenue, police said.

Police think the victim was targeted.

Brito, despite his injuries, backed out of the driveway he was in and hit the pole across the street, Maj. David Lapatin said. Brito then pulled back into the driveway and struck a van, he said.

Brito was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been announced and the shooting remains under investigation.
