PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — The closed Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket has been sold to a developer who plans to build a 200-bed veterans home and resource center on the site.
Mayor Donald Grebien announced the sale of the hospital building and grounds by Care New England to Lockwood Development Partners on Tuesday. The amount of the purchase was not disclosed.
The project will create 200 apartments for senior veterans and a career training and education center for veterans seeking jobs.
The hospital building will be renovated with work starting this year, and construction on the $70 million project is expected to end in 2023.
