Chief: Man dies trying to save uncle from house fire

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Fire officials say a 41-year-old man killed in a house fire in Rhode Island died trying to save his uncle.

Fire crews responded to the West Warwick home just after 3 a.m.

Fire Chief Jeffrey Varone says the victim could have escaped the building on his own, but went to wake up his uncle first.

The uncle made it out a window but the nephew was not able to escape.

The uncle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No names were released.

The fire’s cause is under investigation.
