The tenth homicide of the year in Providence came Thursday night outside the Parenti Villa high rise, where a man was shot to death.

Police said Kadeem Moore, 29 of Providence was shot by a man who stepped out of a car, targeting him outside the Parenti Villa high rise apartments on Tobey Street. He was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive surgery at Rhode Island Hospital.

The tenth killing of the year does not appear to be related to the others, including five homicides in two weeks, said Providence Police Detective Commander Major David Lapatain.

“It just puts a lot of pressure on everybody,” said Lapatin.

“Believe me, we put enough pressure on… I put enough pressure on the detectives, I put enough on myself. So, we’re working it. Hopefully, we’ll get this calmed down very shortly.”

“Providence is a safe place. Most of these people are targeted. It doesn’t make it any better, but it makes you realize there won’t be any random shootings, we haven’t seen any of that,” Lapatin said.
