SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island police chief has been placed on paid administrative leave for undisclosed reasons.
Scituate Town Council Vice President Abbie Groves said in a release Sunday that Chief Donald Delaere Jr. is on leave so that information received about him can be further reviewed.
She said more information couldn’t be released because of “contractual constraints.”
Residents and a councilmember told news outlets that a Saturday night meeting was cancelled over capacity concerns because of the turnout.
Delaere told WLNE-TV he’s not leaving and he’s done nothing wrong. He says the council is trying to get him to leave so they can put in someone else.
Town councilors have declined comment or haven’t returned requests for comment.
