Two schools in Taunton closed on Tuesday after a note containing an unspecified threat turned up at the end of the school day on Monday, are scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, but concern about school safety continues to run high.

“The note had today’s date on it, and was very specific regarding the decision to cancel school today, however anything additional to the note would compromise the ongoing investigation,” said Lieutenant Eric Nichols, public information officer for the Taunton Police at a Tuesday morning news conference outside Taunton High School, which was closed along with the adjacent John Parker Middle School.

He would not disclose the contents of the note, or where it was found, nor would he discuss whether the school was checked by officers using bomb-sniffing dogs.

“I need more answers, I don’t know,” said Christine Miceli, who has a son in the high school and two children in other Taunton schools, when asked whether she would send her children back to school on Wednesday.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do. They said absolutely nothing today. How do we feel safe?,” Miceli asked.

“I’m feeling mixed emotions right now,” said Riley Patten, 15, a freshman at Taunton High School.

“It’s just crazy to think that it actually happens to your school,” she said.

Lt. Nichols said he was awaiting further word from detectives investigating the threatening note before releasing any additional information.
