The Newport Jazz Festival announced an initial list of artists who will perform this summer at the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival.

Last week, organizers said that legendary jazz saxophonist Charles Lloyd will celebrate his 80th birthday by performing all three days at the Newport Jazz Festival, August 3, 4 and 5 at Fort Adams State Park.

Today, the Festival organizers announced more artists, including: Andra Day; Living Colour; Artemis featuring Cécile McLorin Salvant, Renee Rosnes, Anat Cohen, Melissa Aldana, Ingrid Jensen, Noriko Ueda and Allison Miller.

Also performing will be Rudresh Mahanthappa Indo-Pak Coalition; Mary Halvorson’s Code Girl; Michel Camilo; James Carter Organ Trio; Jazzmeia Horn; and Matthew Shipp Trio.

“Charles Lloyd is one of the towering legends of Jazz. I think long-time Jazz fans will be thrilled and some of the new folk will become instant fans and wonder what took them so long to get on the Charles Lloyd train,” said Christian McBride, the festival’s Artistic Director and a world-renowned bassist.

More artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. More information about the Festival is available online: http://www.newportjazz.org
