Louis Vinagro, Johnston’s colorful former pig farm owner and trash hauler is back in the news, after announcing a run as an independent for State Senator in District 25 against incumbent Democrat Frank Lombardo. Vinagro is perhaps best known in Rhode Island for his fights with environmental authorities from Rhode Island DEM and the federal government.
Vinagro joined WPRO’s Gene Valicenti Friday morning to talk about his campaign.
“To be honest with you, I hate politics,” Vinagro told Valicenti. “Point blank, I don’t like them. These Senators and Reps who make the laws, they read them out of a book. So I gotta be in there giving lessons and instructions and telling them how it really is.”
When asked about his opponent, Democratic Senator Frank Lombardo, Vinagro said “He ain’t a bad guy, but I call him the do nothing Senator. He voted for the tolls and the car tax, I never would have done that.”
