In an announcement late Wednesday afternoon, Governor Gina Raimondo said Doctor Michael Fine would be stepping down as Director of the Rhode Island Department of Health.
“As Dr. Fine stated in his letter of resignation, he has spent ‘every fiber of his being’ protecting the health and safety of all Rhode Islanders over the past four years. I am incredibly thankful to him for this dedicated service to our state,” said Raimondo in a statement.
Raimondo praised Dr. Fine’s recent work handling the Brown University meningitis outbreak and his management of the Ebola outbreak.
Dr. Fine’s resignation will be effective March 27.
