The Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers (RIBCO) has announced they will be endorsing republican candidate for Attorney General Dawson Hodgson.

“Dawson’s passion and common sense make him the perfect choice to run the AG’s office,” said RIBCO President Richard Ferruccio.

The brotherhood cites Hodgson’s experience as a prosecutor and as ranking member of the Rhode Island State Senate’s Judiciary committee as reasons behind the endorsement.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of these men and women who work so hard to keep our communities safe,” said Hodgson. “RIBCO’s members face the most dangerous criminals in our society every day. Their endorsement speaks volumes about my plan to create safe streets, build a strong economy, and restore public trust in Rhode Island.”

Hodgson served as a criminal prosecutor in the office of the Rhode Island’s Attorney General from 2005-2010.

In a statement, the Kilmartin campaign responded, “This is endorsement is of no surprise, Attorney General Kilmartin was never asked to interview with the leadership of the Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers before this endorsement was awarded. The Attorney General is honored to have the continued support of many RIBCO officers and members, as well as the Rhode Island AFL-CIO.”
