Members of the Providence Fraternal Order of Police protested Angel Taveras outside Tuesday night’s debate, calling on the Mayor to address police grievances in the city.

Picketers held signs reading “Angel is no Angel” and others criticizing the mayor for not maintaining police equipment; protest leader Taft Manzotti said Taveras is putting his political ambition ahead of the city of Providence.

“Angel Taveras would not be a good choice for governor of the state,” said Manzotti, “He hasn’t done a great job as mayor of the city of Providence and I don’t think he would do a fantastic job as governor.”

The Providence FOP says the police force has shrunk and equipment has become outdated during Taveras’ tenure as mayor.
