We’ve heard of the Mayor’s Marinara Sauce, but now a different Mayor has come forth with his own culinary creation.
Mayor Will Flanagan of Fall River said he plans to sell his version of his grandmother’s kale soup, which will be available on store shelves Monday.
“Mayor Flanagan’s Signature Kale Soup” will feature a hearty blend of onions, potatoes, chourico, carrots, kidney beans and, of course, kale.
“The soup is outstanding,” Flanagan told Gene Valicenti on the WPRO Morning News Wednesday, adding, “Grandma made a good one”
Flanagan’s recipe pays homage to his grandmother, who came to the U.S. from the Azores
“As a I child I recall going into her home Sunday mornings with a big pot of kale soup on the stove cooking and all of that tradition and richness in the soup,” he said. “We want to bring that to the people of Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.”
Flanagan will produce the soup in conjunction with Fall River’s Blount Fine Foods. All of the proceeds from the soup will go towards scholarships for local school children.
According to Blount’s website, their products are available at East Side Market Place in Providence and Clements’ Market Place in Portsmouth. The soup cans, much like Buddy Cianci’s sauce, will feature an image of Flanagan.
