Providence offers free Christmas tree pick up

Liz Burke, WPRO News

The City of Providence will be having free curbside pickup of Christmas trees from Monday, January 7 until Friday, January 18.

A statement released from Mayor Angel Taveras says the trees will be collected by Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation and turned into compost, a natural fertilizer that enriches soil and helps produce healthy plants and trees.

Residents are asked to take the following steps to ensure that their tree will be picked up.

  1. Place trees at the curb on regular trash collection days.
  2. All ornaments, tinsel, lights and tree stands must be removed from trees.
  3. Do not place trees in any type of bag.
