Providence emergency crews responded to 88 Bowdoin Street just after 3:00 in the morning on Saturday for an apartment fire. Acting Fire Chief Clarence Cunha confirms that the fire resulted in the death of one person.

“We had a report everybody was out of the building, when we got to the scene there was a report of a child in the building so firefighters entered the building and found one child. And the child is deceased,” said Cunha.

He says that the child was under the age of 1 year. It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control. The flames also spread to the apartment next door and caused significant damage.

“By the time we got there the building was fully involved, so it was a no win situation,” said Cunha

Ten adults and seven children were displaced by the fire. The cause and where it started is still currently under investigation.
