WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Gina Raimondo is celebrating the start of summer by digging for clams with her family on Narragansett Bay.

Raimondo, her husband and their two children are going out on shellfisherman Jody King’s boat Black Gold on Thursday. They will be joined by Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and Janet Coit, director of the state Department of Environmental Management.

Raimondo says the bay is an integral part of Rhode Island’s social and economic fabric.

The state says that nearly 100 million pounds of seafood was brought in to Rhode Island ports in 2015, with an export value of more than $1 billion.

The state’s food and tourism economy supports more than 60,000 local jobs.
