PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Citizens Financial Group spokesman confirmed that the banking giant is considering the construction of a corporate campus in Rhode Island for about 4,000 employees working in Cranston, Warwick and Smithfield.
Spokesman Jim Hughes told The Providence Journal Tuesday that the bank’s headquarters at One Citizens Plaza in Providence will not move and none of the company’s 5,300 jobs in Rhode Island will leave the state.
Hughes says architects have been consulted but a site hasn’t been selected. He says it’s too early to say if the location would be in Providence, but did offer that the corporate campus would be built on a vacant property.
The exploration of a corporate campus comes as the lease for Citizens’ support facility in Cranston expires in 2018.
